How it started...

The golf cart featured on this website is a 2001 Club Car DS 48V. I purchased the cart from my in-laws for $1200 (the price they paid for the new Trojan batteries) I wanted to make a YouTube video series on how to restore one of these old tired golf carts and make it something new and exciting.

How it's going...

You can see from this lates progress photo, the golf cart is taking on a pretty big transformation. I recently lifted the cart 6″ using a MadJax lift kit I purchased from GC Mod. The wheels and tires were upgraded to a 23″ tire mounted to a 12″ wheel. The primary reason for a 6″ lift is to be able to fit the very famous Navitas 5KW motor upgrade.

Loose Steering Club Car DS? Look Here to Diagnose

If you have loose steering on a club car DS and are wondering where to begin, take a look at the anatomy of the steering system here to begin your own troubleshooting of the steering component structure. Loose steering would be defined as when the wheel is moved 1 inch to the left or right the tires do not move with the same fluidity. If this occurs there are many parts to investigate under the cowl that will allow for a fast and easy steering repair on your Golf Cart. Once the front body cowl is removed it will show you the club car’s simple steering and suspension system. In this post, I will go over the points of movement where parts normally wear out causing the loose steering issues on a golf cart. In the instance of my club car ds golf cart the A-Arm bushings had worn out. When I turned the wheel side to side I could see lateral movement in the bushings. A lift kit would replace all of these parts but OEM parts can be obtained if you want to keep the stock look and performance. Nothing wrong with that.   This particular golf cart needed a tierod end and drag link replacement 2 years prior to my purchasing it. This drag link is the only connection between the golf cart’s rack & pinion steering box and the actual spindles.   Tie rod ends are famous for wearing out at the joint and boot sectors. Look for movement in the boot when rocking the steering wheel back and forth without the actual tie rod moving. This is how you know if you have bad tie rod ends. These tie rod ends on Amazon are a good value for money as they do last about 10

How To Remove Roof on Club Car DS

Removing the roof on a Club Car DS or any Club Car is a simple process but you should take some considerations: Ensure you have a clear workspace Grab a 7/16″ socket or socket driver (the roof bolts are 7/16″) Have a buddy if you are not comfortable lifting or moving cumbersome objects (the roof is a little heavy when released) Have a place to put the roof down and store it because it’s larger than you think Save all of your bolts and hardware in a labeled bag so you know where they go later on Get a good drill/driver combo for faster work of the tear-down These are some replacement roofs you can get on Amazon This is the reddot topsail canvas roof I will be running on this particular Club Car DS build restoration
